Is TwitchCon Paris 2023 canceled?

Twitch regularly offers two annual events for their live-streaming community, one in Europe and the other in the US, allowing viewers and content creators to hang out and socialize in a single venue.

Based on their official schedule, TwitchCon Paris 2023 is set to take place in Paris at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles from July 8 to July 9, 2023.

Twitch streamers and their viewers were excited to attend this event and finally have a proper meet-up for the community. However, an incident happened recently when a police officer shot a 17-year-old person named Nahel Merzouk in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. This incident sparked protests and riots in France.

Twitch plans to go ahead regardless of the riots

Following this incident, TwitchCon attendees are worried about their security. However, Twitch has announced that they are going to keep the event going regardless of the France riots.

On July 1, Twitch stated, “We are closely monitoring the protests taking place in and around Paris. The safety and security of our community and staff are always, and will continue to be our top priority.”

The Amazon-owned streaming platform also added to its statement that the riots will not impact TwitchCon 2023, as the event venue is far away from the epicenter of the riots. “At this time there is no anticipated impact to TwitchCon Paris. The venue is not near the epicenter of the protests, or any of the areas that have seen protest activity, and has continued to operate business as usual.”

“We are getting regular updates from the ground and will communicate any changes to our TwitchCon plans. We look forward to seeing you soon, The TwitchCon Team.”

Even if most of the chaos and demonstrations in Paris have taken place on the other side of the city from the event, many people are still concerned about the decision.
