Fortnite Removes Travis Scott Emote Following Concert Tragedy

Following incidents that took place in Travis Scott’s recent Astroworld concert in Houston, Epic Games has removed the Travis Scott “Out West” dance emote from the game. The entire Daily section of the Fortnite Item Shop is temporarily unavailable.

Travis Scott had previously performed an online concert in Fortnite in 2020. It was the first major online concert event in Fortnite. It also marked Epic’s shift toward marketing collaborations. Many Travis Scott-themed items became available in Fortnite.

The Astroworld concert (5th of November), had over 50,000 people.

Travis Scott’s concerts are raucous. The one in topic lead to the death of at least 8 people; several others sustain injuries. A minimum of 25 people was transported to the hospital.

  • According to reports, the concert had issues of overcrowding and being unsafe. Scott has been criticized for carrying on with the show even though people were being crushed and could be seen shouting for help.
  • The event went on for 30 minutes even after reports of serious casualties. The concert ended prematurely when people finally managed to get the attention of Scott and the authorities.
  • Footage shared by The Washington Post shows people calling for the show to stop, and a woman climbing on a camera operator’s platform to bring to attention the casualties and to call for help. Another clip also shows Scott noticing a person “passed out”, and he calls for security to rush in to help, but then goes back to performing the show.
