Fortnite Removes ‘Building’ Ability in New Update

Fortnite - Resistance Season

The new season in Fortnite brings with it not just new characters but also a new mode. In this new mode, players find themselves unable to ‘build’ in the matches. But don’t worry, Fortnite doesn’t intend on permanently removing the building mechanic from the game.

After maintenance finished, players opened up Fortnite and saw a new loading screen

Fortnite - No Building

The loading screen indicates that players are teaming up with The Seven in exposing “the Imagined Orders nefarious plan”. For those unfamiliar with The Seven, they are one of the factions in Fortnite’s main story. Aside from The Seven, the game also features The Resistance (or the good guys) and the Imagined Orders (the bad guys).

Building is still available in other modes

The building mechanic is only removed from Fortnite’s standard mode. To compensate for the building mechanic being taken out of the standard mode, players now have an overshield as their last line of defense. Additionally, this overshield recharges overtime even if it reaches zero. So, building getting taken away from Fortnite isn’t so bad after all.

As for the competitive and creative modes, players can still access these features in other modes. Epic Games revealed in Fortnite’s season overview that “Building is unaffected in competitive/Arena playlists as well as in Team Rumble and Creative Islands”.

When can players build in Fortnite’s Standard Mode again?

But if you’re wondering when building will be back, it’s rumored that the change is only effective for the first nine days of the new season. Though take that with a grain of salt until Epic releases a specific timeframe on the change.
