Final Fantasy XVI is already climbing the best-sellers charts on Amazon, despite not launching for another two months. It’s even surpassed the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and NBA 2K23 to become the top PS5 bestseller in the US. While it hasn’t claimed the top spot in the UK and Europe, it’s moving up quickly.

The Amazon charts are often indicative of commercial trends and Final Fantasy XVI is also in the top 50 for overall gaming best sellers in the US and the top 100 in Europe. The recent State of Play showcase has likely contributed to this success, showing the impact of big-budget marketing.

Final Fantasy XVI has introduced real-time action and RPG elements, similar to the Devil May Cry series, and has abandoned the traditional turn-based combat system used in previous games in the franchise.

  • Clive will be accompanied by Torgal, his trusty wolf companion who can be given commands. Combat in Final Fantasy XVI is dynamic and occurs in real-time, with Clive using skills he’s acquired by defeating magical beasts known as Eikons.

This makes it the first Final Fantasy game to do so. The protagonist, Clive Rosfield, who holds the title of First Shield of Rosaria, will have a hideout in the game. The highly anticipated game is set to be released on June 22, exclusively for the PS5 platform.

Fantastical Medieval world setting with a primary focus on the protagonist

Yoshida, during the presentation, described the gameplay of Final Fantasy XVI as a thrilling “high-speed rollercoaster ride.” The game will take place in the fantastical world of Valisthea, with Clive as the sole playable character.

  • Clive’s story will be depicted across three distinct phases of his life: his teenage years, his twenties, and his thirties. To better understand Clive’s journey to becoming a sworn warrior, the game will use flashback events to take players even further back in time.
  • The combat sequences in Final Fantasy XVI not only showcase smaller-scale battles but also provide an opportunity for players to transform into giant monsters and wield the full range of powers that each Eikon possesses. This novel experience is a true power fantasy and a departure from the traditional summon animations seen in previous games.

  • However, it seems that PC and Xbox Series X|S owners may have to wait to see if the game is eventually released on their platforms, although Square Enix has a history of eventually releasing their games on multiple platforms.
  • Nevertheless, it appears that Final Fantasy XVI will remain exclusive to PS5 upon its initial release. For those interested in the Collectors Edition, preorders will be available on December 12, 2022.

While it hasn’t claimed the top spot in the UK and other European regions, it has moved up significantly in a short amount of time. Additionally, Final Fantasy XVI is also performing well on the overall gaming best-seller charts, which includes hardware and accessories as well as games. The recent State of Play showcase is likely to have contributed to the game’s success.
