The Faraway Paladin anime is adapted from Yanagino Kanata’s light novel, illustrated by Rin Kususaga, which started serialization in 2015.
The Faraway Paladin Season 2 Release date
- On Friday, April 14, 2023, the official website of The Faraway Paladin anime announced that the second season will premiere in the upcoming fall season.
- Its exact release date is yet to be revealed but we expect it to be as early as October 2023.
The website also released the first PV, main staff, main cast, and teaser visual for the second season of The Faraway Paladin, titled “The King of the Iron Rust Mountain.”
What happened in The Faraway Paladin Season 1?
Season 1 of The Faraway Paladin followed the story of a young boy named Will, who discovers the meaning of life through his adventures with family and friends, despite his faint memories from his past life.
In the second season, the story advances by two years, following the adventures of a 17-year-old Will, now known as William G. Maryblood and his companions. Shoya Chiba will provide the voice for the older version of Will.
Is there enough light novel material for the second season?
Kanata Yanagino, the author of the series, also tweeted about S2, revealing that this season will adapt the second volume of the light novel series.
- As Season 1 adapted light novel Volume 1, there’s plenty of content to cover in this season. While by over producing might result in no source material available for a potential third season after season 2.
- The light novel is currently on hiatus. So, fans might need to be waiting for the release of volume 5.
How well were The Faraway Paladin’s Sales and Profit?
The Faraway Paladin Blu-ray sales were disappointing, with each volume only selling around 300 to 500 copies and not ranking in the top 20 on Oricon. Sales below 1,000 are generally considered poor, even in 2023.
The final volume of The Faraway Paladin light novel series, published in 2017 as Volume 4, had underwhelming sales, with less than 5,000 copies sold. It remains to be seen if there will be a boost in sales with the release of volume 5.

Maki Kawase is still credited as the voice of Will as a young child and as a boy, reprising the role from the first season. Other returning cast members include:

Akira Iwanaga has taken over as the new director of The Faraway Paladin anime at OLM and Sunrise Beyond. With Tatsuya Takahashi returning as the series script supervisor.
Tatsuya Arai joins as the new character designs for the anime, alongside returning character designer Koji Haneda. Ryuuichi Takada and Keigo Hoashi from MONACA are set to compose the music once again.
