However, Princess Poppy took things up a historical notch by walking the red carpet at the Emmy Awards 2024 dressed as a green troll. Before we get into the reasons behind this fashion statement (Peppermint conforms, it counts) let’s just appreciate the efforts that went into the look.
The American drag queen did not just wear a Halloween costume to the red carpet she dressed up as a goblin with a matching green gown and statement jewelry including a moss-covered bag with doll heads and several eyes.
She also probably spent a great amount of time capturing all the details with makeup so her expressions aren’t restricted. It is becoming difficult to see this much enthusiasm at Met Gala let alone at Emmys.
Why did Princess Poppy dress as a goblin at Emmys 2024
The star that stepped away from drag in 2023 became the talk of the town by dressing as a green troll for Monday night’s ceremony celebrating 15 years of Emmy Awards. Her reason? she wanted to dress unconventionally by “taking the decorum and turning it on its head.”

She also shared her inspiration for the look with Entertainment Weekly which includes a crossover between Jabba the Hutt, Roz from Monsters, Inc., and a witch from the 1985 Tom Cruise movie Legend. Her only aim was to create a look so shocking that people had to turn around and look.
This is a major move for the San Fransisco queen who wanted to significantly step back from limelight following the season 15 of Drag Race- which was nominated for Outstanding Competition Series at the Emmys, after winning several awards at the Creative Arts Emmys earlier in the year.

She had said that she wishes to simply fade into obscurity instead of becoming famous to EW in April 2023. She believes that people place much emphasis on fame and success but it is okay to not desire it and she doesn’t want that for her life.
Queen also confirmed that her retirement isn’t permanent but she is not going to run her persona at full-fledged speed either. She clarified that she will continue being Princess Poppy but it wouldn’t be so frequent. Further reasoning that touring and doing drag is tough especially when you are not loving every minute of it.
