E3 2022 is officially canceled, according to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Although it was previously announced back in January, ESA released a statement that gave saddened gamers a glimmer of hope. Although E3 2022 is canceled, ESA is aiming for a hybrid mode next year.
E3 2022 is canceled, but E3 2023 is adopting a hybrid set-up
Due to Omicron cases rising again around the world, the ESA felt like postponing E3 to a later date is the best decision. But even though one of the major gaming events isn’t taking place this year, the ESA had some pretty comforting words to avid gamers. For ESA, this is just a minor setback that will do more good than harm.

They see E3 2022’s cancellation as a way to improve E3 2023. Moreover, it means more time for them to adapt to the hybrid mode the event will seemingly embrace.
A hybrid E3 means a combination of in-person and online attendance
“We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer,” ESA explained in a statement on E3 2022’s cancellation. “Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience.”
ESA promises to deliver a great event next year. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic is still present, it seems that won’t be enough to stop E3 2023 from happening.
