The world of cinema and television has always been loved by people, whether in the past or modern times. From animations and cartoons years ago, live-action films and series have said hello to viewers and avid fans. One example would be the One Piece, which recently released its live-action series on Netflix. Now, the buzzing continues for Disney’s Snow White 2024 live-action movie, and the question: Will Rachel Zegler still play the titular role? Here’s what we know so far amidst the controversies and the confirmed cast members of the live-action film.
Will Rachel Zegler play the live-action Snow White?
Way back in 2021, the announcement of the titular role of Snow White welcomed Disney fans. Actress and singer Rachel Zegler will portray the Disney princess in the upcoming movie. But with an issue resurfacing, will she still keep her Snow White role?
Despite the controversies, no other name seems to replace Rachel Zegler as Snow White. The backlash seems to worsen, but the news about the casting remains unchanging as of now. Recently, Zegler’s entangled with her previous controversial comments. One of which the actress playfully mocks the original Snow White animation.

The controversial statements have been all over the video application TikTok. During the promotion of Snow White last year, netizens found and talked about a few of Zegler’s interviews regarding the live-action film. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress said that the animated film “scared” her. In a Variety interview, she explains the changes, stating that it is not 1937, and a prince would not save Snow White.
Rachel Zegler further spoke about Prince Charming at the D23 Expo, mentioning that he is Snow White’s “stalker.” The part where the prince’s kiss woke Snow White also seems “weird” to her, and she adds they “didn’t do that this time.”
Other confirmed Snow White casts
Aside from Rachel Zegler’s portrayal, Gal Gadot retains the role of the story’s villain, Evil Queen. Gadot garnered her fanbase after joining Fast & Furious, playing DC’s Wonder Woman, and leading Netflix’s recent Heart of Stone. Other confirmed cast are as follows:
- Martin Klebba as Grumpy
- Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman
- Andrew Burnap as Jonathan (a new character to be introduced in the film)
- Colin Michael Carmichael
- Dujonna Gift
- Katie Hardwick
Snow White live-action movie controversies explained
If you missed out on the other Snow White and the Seven Dwarves controversies, then we got you. Aside from the resurfacing of Rachel Zegler’s comments, her name got caught in an issue right after her role reveal. The choice of the casting of the West Side Story actress didn’t sit right with netizens, especially with the original animated character’s description, “as white as snow.”

Apart from Zegler, the dwarves’ casting also earned criticism from netizens. Instead of sticking to the original animation with seven dwarves, Disney plans to change it to Seven Magical Creatures. A filming photo circulated with the supposedly seven dwarves, consisting of eight actors of different races and genders.
The live-action Disney movie reportedly set to hit the US theaters in March 2024. As of this writing, there’s no news about delays, so it is right to speculate that the film will push through the release date. We can expect other details to be revealed once updates and even a trailer are released. We’ll make sure to keep this article updated for the latest news!
