Did the New Batman Meet Expectations

If you still haven’t watched the new Batman, and you’re not sure it’s worth spending almost three hours on another superhero movie, let us help you: It is.

Since we watched the movie, we decided to bring you some of the most exciting details without revealing any spoilers.

What’s New?

For many hardcore Batman fans out there, it might seem like nothing new could be added after Nolan’s fantastic trilogy. But when we heard Matt Reeves will take over the director’s chair, we couldn’t help but hope he’ll bestow us with some of those amazing visual effects he showed us in War for the Planet of the Apes. Luckily, he did.

Alongside excellent visuals, Reeves’s choice of music is a refreshing yet gloomy introduction to Batman’s darker and more psychological persona. The grunge-loving Caped Crusader enters his cave with Nirvana’s Something in the Way in the background. Reeves even admitted using Kurt Cobain as an inspiration for his character. With this in mind, you can expect a more down-to-earth Batman who’s battling his demons while trying to end heinous crimes ravaging the streets of Gotham. After his fantastic portrayal of an isolated lighthouse keeper in The Lighthouse, Robert Pattinson showed that he can dive into Bruce Wayne’s loneliness and dark personal history.

The rest of the crew did not disappoint either. The incredible Zoë Kravitz took on the role of Catwoman and gave her a more compassionate touch. Kravitz said she wanted to show her feminine side. She also felt the need to address burning social issues like injustice and violence toward women and white privilege. And she nailed it!

Even though he appeared only briefly, Colin Farrell took the spotlight with his magnificent transformation as Gotham’s crime lord, the Penguin. Luckily, the rumor has it that we can expect to see him a lot more in the future.

The New Villain

We love the idea of Joker being the yin to Batman’s yang, and for many, they almost seem inseparable. Even though everyone’s favorite villain didn’t make it to Gotham’s horror show this time, the city has plenty of vile characters waiting in line to replace him. If you forgot their faces, an infographic by ExpressVPN might help you recall them.

The new Batman revived the villain hiding from the big screen since 1995 when Jim Carrey took his spin on the character. Incredibly talented Paul Dano portrays the new Riddler, and it’s nothing like the Spandex-wearing prankster you saw before. He’s a cold-blooded murderer with an extensive plan on how to bring Gotham’s tycoons to their knees.

What to Expect Next?

Reeves previously announced a spinoff series focused on corruption in Gotham’s police department, but the series has been canceled according to the latest news. However, HBO Max is still planning to proceed with Reeves’s series focused on the Penguin and his rise to the top of Gotham’s underworld. Also, the movie’s producer Dylan Clark confirmed they’re working on the second Batman movie that should be out in less than five years.
