Did The 2023 MAMA Awards Lose Its Sparks Among Fans? | Complete List Of Winners

It’s the time of the year for the K-pop fans as the 2023 MAMA Awards day one finished last night. The Tokyo Dome was filled with cheers, from the red carpet, performances, and up until the announcements. However, the K-pop social media world seemed to be shocked knowing that the annual awarding ceremony happened yesterday.

Everyone Seemed Surprised: “It’s Today?!”

On November 28, the most-awaited MAMA Awards began the party and recognition rolling at Tokyo Dome. The two-day event will continue its showcases and announcements the next day, November 29. However, fans from different fandoms took a pause on X, as most of them tweeted the phrase, “MAMA is today?”

Since the culmination of the Mnet Asian Music Awards, it has been one of the most anticipated year-end award show in the industry. It came as a shock to everyone that it made almost no noise that it was happening — not until on the day itself. Some fans speculate that the MAMA Awards may just have “fell off.”

  • Despite almost all K-pop fans forgetting the 2023 MAMA Awards, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it lost its spark among the audience. However, we can say that the artist lineup greatly affected the hype and anticipation of the fans looking forward to the ceremony. We also tuned in to Mnet for the award show’s lineup but were kind of left unsatisfied with their final list. They should have invited and added some more prominent nominated artists if they wished for the event to be loud in the venue and on social media.
  • It’s just that the 2023 MAMA Awards focused on getting the current generation (4th), while many await the participation of third generation groups and soloists like BTS, TWICE, and BLACKPINK among others, as they are groups that are mostly nominated in the music award show.

Interestingly, some fans also find this a reason, and even took out old clips of BTS and TWICE among others who previously attended MAMA. Despite belonging in the third-gen, these two groups, along with BLACKPINK and SEVENTEEN, are still battling with the newest generation for these music award show recognition. It’s pretty unfortunate that only SVT is able to attend the 2023 MAMA Awards among them.

But of course, a lot still watched and showed their support for their beloved artists. The ‘violin guy’ went viral on K-pop stan Twitter, and in case you wish to know who he was, that’s ZEROBASEONE’s Zhang Hao. Some of the talked about artists during day 1 was RIIZE and Sung Hanbin as 2023 MAMA Awards’ Face Of The Year (according to their fans!)
