Did Sony Falsely Advertise the PS5 with 8K Resolution

It appears Sony removed the “8K” tag on the new packaging of the PS5. This alleged change caused a stir on social media platforms like X (Twitter), and talks of a potential lawsuit due to ‘false advertising’ is spreading like wildfire.

Posted by @Pirat_Nation on X (Twitter), he noticed a change in the new PS5 packaging. This alleged action from Sony caused confusion among fans. Many questioned whether this was false advertising for the PS5 or a ploy to include an ‘improved’ specification for the PS5 Pro.

Potential Lawsuit

The 8K resolution was among the best offers for the PS5 when it was first announced. However, it is known to have processing issues due to the high demand an 8K resolution needs. If the original PS5 is not capable of supporting the 8K resolution, could this lead to a lawsuit?

Sony PS5 8K Resolution Support (Official FAQ)

The case of false advertising may vary depending on the jurisdiction and laws that apply in an area. Nevertheless, if proven to be true, Sony will most likely face public scrutiny and be forced to give compensation to those who already purchased a PS5. One commenter even mentioned that he still has his original box as proof.

“If you paid for a product or service that was falsely or improperly advertised, you can hold the offending company accountable through a misleading advertising lawsuit. If you successfully prove your claims, you could receive financial compensation.”

A similar case happened to NVIDIA when they were sued in a class-action lawsuit in 2016 for falsely advertising the GTX 9070 regarding its memory capacity. The company settled and paid $1.3 million in attorney fees, and each affected customer was compensated $30 each.

Sony has yet to address the issue

Sony has not made any announcement or statement regarding the issue just yet. It’s still unclear whether the images posted are legitimate or altered. However, until this issue is resolved and Sony makes an official statement, fans will continue to question the legitimacy of the PS5‘s 8K capabilities. As a reminder, the rumoured PS5 Pro reportedly supports 8K.
