Dead Island 2 is a highly awaited RPG game set to be released on 21st April 2023. It is a sequel to the 2011 game Dead Island. The game takes place in Los Angeles and San Fransico and has different in-game combat mechanics. Alongside, in-game mechanic changes there are many more changes and one of the most major ones among them is the zombie type. Here is a list of all the zombie types coming to Dead Island 2.
Infected Zombies
Infected Zombies are gonna be the main residents of Hell-A. They are zombies that don’t have any special abilities and are classified into three categories depending on how long they have been infected.
- Shamblers – Infected zombies become lesser mobile as they rot more or are infected for longer. Shamblers are the longest infected Zombies and hence slower compared to any other. Players should find it easier to get around them but still watch out as they move in large groups.
- Walkers – These are the most commonly infected zombies. They move in large groups and people will encounter them more often than any other zombies.
- Runners – These freshly turned zombies are fast and can catch up with the players. Therefore, players should watch out for them and try to outrun them.
Apex Zombies
The deadliest zombies in the game would be Apex zombies. They are hard to fight against because they have special abilities which can make combat against them tricky. In addition, they are gonna be surrounded by other types of zombies and there is a good chance of the players getting outnumbered. They are also classified into the following types:
- Screamers – As the name suggests these zombies scream out loud to disorient the player or call upon help from other zombies. Players need to be sneaky to take them out or they are going to be surrounded by a horde of zombies.
- Slobbers – Slobbers vomit toxic substances that can deal high damage and give them a ranged advantage. In addition, they can also use this ability to block routes for the players to escape.
- Crushers – Keeping that name in the mind, they do all the justice to it. Crushers are powerful zombies and prefer crushing anything that comes their way.
Variant Zombies
These zombies are mutated forms of Apex and Infected zombies. They are dangerous because of their mutation and need a better strategy to be dealt with.
- Grenadier Walker – They are like double-edged swords in Dead Island 2. They have armored bodies and have grenades on them that blast on hitting. Therefore, they can be killed to take out a large number of zombies at the same time but careful not to get too close.
- Spiky Runner – These zombies have wires or glass on their rotten bodies. Hence, they can deal good damage in the melee range.
- Inferno Crusher – These zombies are on fire, literally! Therefore, the player needs to extinguish their fire before taking them out.

We do expect more zombie types to be released in the future. But, as of now these 9 types of undead are the ones players need to look out for and try to kill or outrun for their survival.
