In Dead Island 2, you can choose to take out those flesh-eating zombies in style. Aside from getting to know the stories of the survivors, players get to pick up powerful weapons they can add to their collection. One of these weapons is the legendary Bodycount rifle, and you can only get it in Dead Island 2 if you complete the REDACTED quest.
How to Start the REDACTED Quest
Dead Island 2 features tons of side quests that will keep you busy for hours on end. This is a perfect way to explore sunny Hell-A and see what it has to offer. Completing quests also gives players generous rewards that will help them on their hack-and-slash journey across hordes of zombies.
- To officially start the REDACTED quest in Dead Island 2, you first need to look for Lt. Ford. He is a standard zombie that only spawns in the military barracks west of Venice Beach.

- If Lt. Ford isn’t spawning for you, then that can only mean two things.
- You either need to finish the main story campaign.
- You need to complete two side quests from W.O. Rodriguez. After that, Lt. Ford will spawn in the military barracks.
- Once you defeat Lt. Ford, you can now pick up a secret document from his corpse.
REDACTED’s Objective
Now that you have the secret documents, you can now start tracking [REDACTED] where you need to “follow the paper trail”. The quest location is on the other side of the beach, so be on the lookout for any hostile and powerful zombies along the way.
- Go through the beach where some zombies are lurking nearby. You need to look for a container that has the number 66 on it.

- You can easily spot container #66 as soon as you run further into the beach. There may be a Crusher that spawns just outside the open doors of the container, so be careful!

- Go inside the container and destroy the boxes with a few melee attacks. After clearing the path, you can loot the container asset with the legendary rifle inside.
REDACTED Quest Reward: Bodycount rifle
Once you finish the side quest, you’ll be rewarded with the Bodycount rifle. It’s nice to have the Bodycount auto rifle on you when you’re out there slaying zombies. It is considered one of the best guns to have in the game simply because it makes defeating zombies easier and quicker.
Since it is a powerful auto rifle, it only makes sense for players to not have access to it early on in the game. That would mean less hacking and slashing, and more running and gunning.

Here is an overview of the Bodycount rifle in Dead Island 2:
DAMAGE TYPE | Projectile | – |
PROFILE | Rapid-Fire | Rapid shots trigger CRITICAL HITS and a minor ACCURACY boost. This effect is stackable. |
MOD | Superior Ranged Puncturator Mod | This mod inflicts bleed damage and significantly boosts your damage. Hitting a zombie consecutively also applies the BLEEDING effect on them. |
PERKS | Exit Wound | After hitting a zombie, there is a chance for nearby zombies to have bleed damage. |
Bloodthirsty | Killing a zombie gives you a moderate damage boost. It also generates increased fury for your character. |
This is the perfect weapon if you feel that the zombies are getting too close for comfort. You can also reenact some of your favorite zombie movie scenes and easily take down hordes with the spray-and-pray method of the Bodycount rifle in Dead Island 2.
