After we were left wanting more when Square Enix announced Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, they revealed new features coming to the game. Read on to find out more about the latest news on Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 is getting reworked in Reunion
If you’re only getting into the Final Fantasy universe, Crisis Core is not exactly a new game. It was first released back in 2007 exclusively for the PlayStation Portable. However, Square Enix announced that it is getting a remaster during the Final Fantasy 7’s 25th anniversary stream.

Of course, this had longtime fans of the video game series hyped as Final Fantasy 7 will no longer be a PlayStation exclusive. According to the announcement, Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is coming to nearly all modern platforms. This includes the PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch.
However, there wasn’t anything else revealed during the anniversary stream. So when Square Enix revealed some of the new features coming to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, it got us even more excited for the remaster.

Expect significant changes to the combat system in Crisis Core
Recently, the official Twitter account for Final Fantasy 7 tweeted some of the new features coming to the game. There will be improvements to both camera and character movements as well as an optimized user interface.
Furthermore, players can expect improvements to the game’s sound environment as it features new background music. Additionally, they also added in voiceover to scenes that were purely text.

But the most notable part of the announcement is the menu-based battle system. If you’ve played through Crisis Core in the past, the combat system is different from the one in FF7. Although it still stuck to the turn-based combat system Final Fantasy games are known for, it included the DMW system.

For those unfamiliar with the DMW system in Crisis Core, it stands for the Digital Mind Wave. If you engage in combat in the original Crisis Core game, you have the freedom to run around the battlefield. Even though it was still turn-based, you can move Zack around the battlefield and use his skills from a menu.

With this announcement from Square Enix, we’re looking forward to how they are going to make changes. There will also be a “new menu-based battle system.”
For now, we can only wait for more information to come from Square Enix since all we got from the announcement were a few screenshots. However, the combat system in the screenshots looks similar to the PSP version of Crisis Core.
The DMW system is still in the gameplay we’ve seen so far. So it’s interesting to see how Square Enix has changed Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.
The game is set for release this Winter. It serves as the prequel to Final Fantasy 7.
