Both old and new viewers of CNN were shocked when news broke out of one of their most prominent hosts, Don Lemon, was fired. Don Lemon is best known for being a controversial host on CNN
During his 17 years of service with CNN, Don Lemon has found himself in hot water on one or two occasions. Recently, he became a co-host on CNN’s This Morning program. He started in January 2023 and after only a month, his stint on the program was problematic.
- What was supposed to be a fresh start for Lemon immediately turned sour. The program received low ratings despite Lemon’s popularity. Furthermore, he had little to no chemistry with his co-hosts as they were often seen clashing onscreen. Some of the topics they did not see eye to eye on include politics, race, and gender.
- One of the most notable problems Lemon faced on CNN’s This Morning program was him receiving backlash for his controversial comments.
The comments he made during his short-lived participation in the program are believed to be the reason why CNN fired Don Lemon.
Netizens believe CNN fired Don Lemon after sexist remarks
A lot of netizens seem to agree on one of the incidents which got Lemon fired from the network. Back in February of this year, the hosts had been talking about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley. While discussing the former UN ambassador, Lemon made a comment that irked both the viewers and the network.
- During the program, Lemon explicitly said that Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley was “not in her prime”. He believes that women are in their prime if they are still in their 20s, 30s, and even 40s.
- That belief doesn’t apply to Haley as she is already 51 years old this year. Furthermore, she would not be able to compete with the other candidates seen as they were younger than Haley.

- After Lemon made that remark, Haley took to Twitter to respond and air out her grievances. She called the CNN anchor a sexist, with her supporters coming to her side and pointing out that Lemon was also being ageist with his remarks.
- After news broke out of Lemon being axed from the network, Haley took a jab at him on her Twitter account.

Many Republicans have rejoiced after Lemon’s removal from the network
Don Lemon took to Twitter to release a statement about his departure from CNN. According to the former CNN anchor, he was only informed by his agent that he was fired. He was “stunned” after finding out and even called out management for not having the decency to speak with him directly.

A Twitter user responded to Lemon’s post, inserting a screenshot of Twitter’s context feature. According to CNN’s Public Relations department, Lemon’s statement was inaccurate. Instead of accepting their invitation for Lemon to meet with management, he chose to release a statement on his Twitter account instead.

It looks like this is the end of Don Lemon’s 17-year run with CNN. Although Republicans are rejoicing, Democrats and his other fans have remarked that this is a sad day for journalism.
