There’s a rising trend in horror games nowadays where most players will mistake it for a game safe for kids to play. One of these games is Bendy and the Dark Revival, the sequel to the hit game Bendy and the Ink Machine released back in 2017. Is Bendy and the Dark Revival popular with kids?
The sequel to Bendy and the Ink Machine was released last week on November 15, 2022. Despite the fresh release date, dozens of content creators on sites like YouTube have been uploading videos of their gameplay. As of writing, creators like DanTDM have more than 1 million collective views on their Dark Revival videos.
It’s safe to say that Bendy and the Dark Revival will be popular with kids especially since creators like DanTDM are watched by a younger audience. If we can recall the first game, it rose to popularity thanks to the videos from YouTubers Markiplier and Jacksepticeye.
- One of the reasons why the Bendy video game franchise is popular with kids is because of its cartoonish graphics. But don’t be fooled because, underneath all that, the Bendy series is a survival horror game
- Bendy and the Dark Revival takes place at the Joey Drew Studios, the same location where the first game happened. The only difference is this time, players will control Audrey, an animator with supernatural powers
- The Ink Demon returns to Bendy and the Dark Revival as the main antagonist. If Audrey’s environment starts appearing grayscale, that’s an indicator that the Ink Demon will soon be hunting her down
What is the game’s age rating? Is it safe for kids to play?
As we have already mentioned, the Bendy games belong to the survival horror genre. However, the devs have worked around the element of showing blood whenever something violent happens in the games.
- While players navigate the fictional place called Joey Drew Studios, they come across ink-tainted beings that they need to defeat in order to survive. When fighting off these enemies, ink will show instead of blood since they are made out of ink
- However, this doesn’t mean that the game cannot get violent. There are still gory animations that aren’t appropriate for children to see. Sure, the cartoonish graphics of Bendy and the Dark Revival help in reducing the violence but of course, survival horror games most likely need gore present to deliver a good scare
Kids under the age of 12 shouldn’t play Bendy and the Dark Revival because of how graphic some character deaths can be. According to Common Sense Media, parents and guardians should be aware that the game “certainly doesn’t hold anything back” in terms of violence.
- Previously, Common Sense Media gave Bendy and the Ink Machine a 12+ age rating. For Bendy and the Dark Revival, they have put a 16+ age rating which definitely says a lot about the game’s gore and violence.
- It’s also important to note that the trailer for Bendy and the Dark Revival features a ‘T’ age rating. If the devs think that the game isn’t suitable for younger audiences, it’s best if we take their word for it.
