The singer eventually split up from her husband at the beginning of the year. Soon after in March 2023, the first set of dating rumors began to surface when Daily Mail‘s source claimed that Grande and Slater were ‘all over each other’ at Michelle Yeoh’s Oscars Party.
In May 2023, Ethan Slater posted a Mother’s Day tribute for his wife Lilly Jay. Ariana also liked this post and was later spotted at the Wimbledon 2023 men’s final without her wedding band. A day later in July 2023, the news breaks out that Ariana and Dalton are heading towards divorce.
Within a week, sources of People confirmed that Ariana had been dating Ethan since January and he had split up with his wife. Meanwhile, US Weekly stated that they have just begun to see each other and are enjoying their time together.

The next day Page Six reported that Lilly Jay was blindsided about the relationship and she is heartbroken, to say the least. Another source claimed that the new couple had already confessed their love to Jay days before the news came out and they weren’t discreet on sets either.
By the end of July, Slater had filed for a divorce, Jay called Ariana ‘Not a girl’s girl’ and Grande began to take things slow after being subjected to backlash. In September, a close friend clarified that the relationship wasn’t as scandalous and they started seeing each other after the separation.
Since then the couple has been dating steadily, going to Disney World in September, spending hours in the MO Lounge of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in October, and decorating a Christmas tree with the SPAM ornament in December.
