Animal Crossing: New Horizons is just unstoppable. In Japan alone, last week, the game saw a whopping sales of 102,553 retail copies sold. This is still a market estimation and the actual numbers could go even beyond that.
Famitsu posted their sales charts for the week of May 18 – May 24, in which Animal Crossing: New Horizons kept its throne by being on the first position. And that too, by a very large margin. The second game on the list was Ring Fit Adventure, a game from 2019, which sold 11,746 copies.
Keep in mind, we’re not even looking at digital downloads here.
Splatoon 2 was the third game with 10,144 retail copies sold in total. This easily shows how widely popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons is. Not just in Japan, but even in the UK, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been smashing sales records almost every week.
For those who were unaware, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold over 1.88 million physical copies in its first 3 days in Japan. And we aren’t even counting the digital downloads. By May 7, 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons already sold 13.41 million copies, which is a huge record for a game. And the numbers aren’t stopping anytime soon.
The communities really strong and not just gamers, but even general people love the game.
