Ever since Dendro became playable in Genshin Impact, a lot of Travelers have been feeling that Geo became useless. Each element in the game has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. However, Geo became very much overlooked as HoYoverse shifted their focus more on the Dendro element. Despite this, Genshin Impact players still need the Geo element in their team comps. In this article, we will be exploring why Geo isn’t at all useless in Genshin Impact. Stay with us!
Geo has the most powerful shields in Genshin Impact
Although Geo characters aren’t the only ones capable of generating shields in the game, they undeniably have the most powerful ones in Genshin Impact. Sure, characters like Diona and Thoma can make their own shields. But if you were to choose whether you’d prefer Diona’s or Thoma’s over Zhongli’s overpowered shield, then you are obviously making the wrong choice.
Of course, it is expected that Zhongli has the most powerful shield in the game. He is the Geo Archon after all. But other than that, there are a lot of perks to having Zhongli and his Geo shield in your Genshin Impact team comps.
- You would rarely need a healer unit to join your team if Zhongli is there. As long as you have a great build on the Geo Archon, you won’t have to worry about enemies damaging any of your characters during fights.
- His shield can also absorb high numbers of physical and elemental damage from enemies. Make sure to capitalize on this as this will be your ticket to easily clearing out enemy mobs in Genshin Impact.
- When you have Zhongli on your team, you can use the three other slots to have damage dealers. Instead of having one or two DPS characters, you can give the three slots to characters of this role. Now those annoying Hilichurl mobs will think twice before attacking you on sight!

Noelle is a great 4-star Geo unit available to all players
Did you already do a 10-pull on the Beginner’s Banner? Because if not, then you’re missing out on a great healer and DPS character rolled into one! Noelle is a guaranteed drop for every Traveler who pulls ten times from the Beginner’s Banner. Of course, this is free to new players but if you haven’t gotten around to pulling from the Beginner’s Banner, now is the perfect time to do so.
- Noelle is a great 4-star Geo unit who has the power to be your team’s healer and main DPS. You can also use Noelle as your Genshin Impact team comp’s support if you already have another DPS in mind.
- In MOBA terms, Noelle can be called a tank because of her stats leaning more into defense. However, this doesn’t stop Noelle from being the ‘One-Maid Army’ in Genshin Impact as she can literally do it all. Deal damage, heal teammates, provide a powerful shield… Noelle is one of our favorite characters in Genshin Impact.

Triggering Geo reactions are helpful during fights
If you like triggering reactions during fights in Genshin Impact, then you’d want to utilize your Geo characters to do this. Since this element adapts quickly to any of the other six elements, you can trigger the Crystallize reaction. Although this does not deal any damage, it is powerful enough to create shields for you and your team.
- Shields generated from Crystallize reactions can block and absorb damage from enemies. It also provides additional protection for your Genshin Impact team. If you’re having a hard time clearing Domains or even the Spiral Abyss, maybe it’s time to include a Geo character in your lineup!
Make use of the ‘Enduring Rock’ resonance
In Genshin Impact, there is a mechanic called Elemental Resonance. This mechanic is triggered by having a specific combination of elemental characters in your current team comp or party. The effects of your Elemental Resonance can be stacked and is applied to all players in the current lineup.
To activate the ‘Enduring Rock’ resonance, you need two Geo characters in your active team. Here are the effects of this Elemental Resonance in Genshin Impact:
- If two Geo characters are present, your team’s shield strength is increased by 15%. Characters who are protected by a shield receive the following buffs:
- Damage is increased by 15%
- When dealing damage to enemies, it decreases their resistance to GEO by 20%. This effect lasts for 15 seconds
This resonance is especially effective in battles wherein your enemies have powerful shields that aren’t easy to break. And yes, we’re looking at you, Abyss Mages! The ‘Enduring Rock’ resonance can prove to be a game-changer, so it’s easy to say that Geo isn’t a useless element in Genshin Impact despite how overlooked it has gotten.

Geo isn’t useless – HoYoverse just needs to pay more attention to it
Would it be a stretch if we say that Geo is the most underrated element in Genshin Impact? The past updates focused more on releasing characters for different elements besides Geo. Furthermore, there are Travelers who feel that Geo is the most boring element.
If HoYoverse would somehow dedicate some of their energy to improving this element, then maybe more Travelers would appreciate Geo. Hopefully, we will get to see more Geo elemental reactions besides Crystallize. Another thing we would want is for Geo to do more than just produce shields. Other elements can produce shields while creating other reactions, so why can’t Geo be the same?
With all that being said, we have our fingers crossed and our hopes up that Geo is improved in Genshin Impact in the coming months. Otherwise, more and more Travelers would opt to use other elements and forget about Geo entirely.
