ESL One Berlin Major 2023 is set to be the second major tournament of Dota 2 in the concurrent Dota Pro Circuit season. This major is set to be the biggest thing in this season since the release of the current Dota 2 7.33 patch update.

It has been a long time since a huge patch dropped for Dota 2 ever since last year’s The International 11. Ever since then, a total of two sub patches released for the game. But now, as quoted by many famous individuals in the professional Dota 2 scene, patch 7.33 has changed the game altogether.

With the map becoming 40% larger, there are a hell lot of new factors added to the MOBA. And keeping all of these in mind, it has only been a few days since the massive patch dropped. And that is what makes the Dota 2 Berlin Major 2023 so important.

This major will define the norms and meta of the current patch. Here is everything you need to know about this upcoming Dota 2 Berlin Major 2023.


Dota 2 Berlin Major 2023 schedule and format

The Dota 2 Berlin Major 2023 is set to begin tomorrow with a total of 18 teams that qualified through various previous Dota Pro Circuit tournaments. Depending on regions, the division of teams qualified through all of them. Here is the division of qualified team numbers based on region:

  • Four teams from the Western Europe region
  • Four teams from the China region
  • Three teams from the Eastern Europe region
  • Three teams from the Southeast Asia region
  • Two teams from the North American region
  • Two teams from the South American region

Like any other major of the Dota Pro Circuit the Dota 2 Berlin Major 2023 will also feature a Group Stage followed by the Playoffs stage. Here is a detailed format of the two stages of the major Dota 2 tournament.

Group Stage

All 18 teams are divided into two groups of nine featuring a single round-robin system. All the matches will show a best-of-2 format. The top four teams from each group at the end will qualify up to the upper bracket of the playoffs.

The fifth and sixth position teams will enter the playoffs as lower bracket teams while all the other three teams get eliminated.

Playoffs

The qualified teams will pit themselves against each other in a double-elimination format. Apart from the Grand Final, all the matches will be best-of-3s. And, the Grand Final will feature a best-of-5 format between the final two teams.
