Borderlands, the RPG looter shooter needs no introduction. Set on the planet Pandora, which is overrun by bandits and raiders, the game features several characters. Each game has its own characters, but the same theme and world.
The recent trend of making movies and series based on video games is picking up. Borderlands is one of the games that is being adapted into a movie. The leading cast has been decided, and the story follows the characters from the first game. While there is more information to come out, I am already very excited to see the action-comedy take on the game.
With that, the list below presents some of the movies that are similar to the game. Let’s jump in without further ado.
The Book of Eli (2010)
Starring Denzel Washington in the lead, the movie follows Eli, a man in post-apocalyptic Earth. Nuclear fallout has converted the world into a wasteland. In this world, Eli is tasked by voices in his head to keep a book safe and deliver it to safety.

Of course, in such a world, there are men who want to control everyone by controlling resources or power. One such man is also in pursuit of this book, and Eli has several encounters with him. The journey of Eli is truly a must-watch.
Dune (2021)
Dune is not far from the world of Pandora. The intergalactic travel, control over resources and riches, the corporations (and rulers) involved, seem very similar. Similar to the riches to be found on Pandora, a scarce resource is found on the planet Arrakis in Dune. But the people who get to access it are decided more systematically in the movie.

A feudal aristocratic empire controls all planets, and the rulers of planets are responsible for the resources there as well. This is slightly in contrast to the various corporations looking to extract Pandora’s resources. The politics is well played out in Dune, with mystery and science fiction making the movie a very good adaptation of the novel.
Mad Max (1979-ongoing)
To be honest, the entire Mad Max series can be similar to Borderlands. The films are situated in a dystopian world. Resources are scarce, and those who control the resources control the people. And those who control the people control everything.

Sound similar yet? While there are no corporations to control the resources, there are a group of men, and their families, who run everything. Moreover, there is also a game based on the movies, so be sure to check that out too.
Waterworld (1995)
Imagine a world where there is no land. Only water, engulfing each and every corner. That is what Waterworld brings to us. A post-apocalyptic world where there is no land. People live in floating communities known as atolls.

In this world, there is a search for land, the place where people were once believed to have lived. The movie does not rate very high but is worth a watch.
Mortal Engines (2018)
A steampunk film, the movie takes us to a post-apocalyptic where entire cities can move. Not only that, they conquer other cities, assimilating them. In the same world, there are other people who live in traditional, non-moving settlements. In this world, we follow a woman who attempts to assassinate the head of a guild.

When her plans are thwarted, she has to form alliances and pursue her goal again. At the same, we also see politics at the larger level. This is the conflict between mobile cities and traditional cities.
